Tell the Treasurer how tough it is to find a job

ACOSS CEO Cassandra Goldie has been in Canberra and meeting with Members of Parliament (MP) about the need for a permanent and adequate base rate of JobSeeker and other income support payments. There was one response that she heard over and over again – that politicians aren’t hearing from people on JobSeeker about how tough it is to find a job.

As we approach the festive season, unemployment and underemployment are at record highs. There is currently only one job vacancy available for every 11 people without a job or working enough hours, with even fewer jobs in regional areas. So many people are telling us how many applications they’re sending and how they’re competing with hundreds of other applicants. Sometimes they get a rejection letter but mostly they’re not hearing back at all.

We know it’s tough to find a job right now and we need an adequate permanent income support system to give everyone the chance to rebuild their lives. Raise the Rate for Good supporters across the country have already send thousands of holiday cards, let’s keep them coming.
