A letter to your MP – hopes for the new Parliament
In just two weeks, our new Federal Parliament will meet in Canberra for the first time. With a new government and 35 new Members of Parliament, it’s time to make clear what kind of future we want to see.
Before they head off to Canberra, we need MPs to hear the stories of people struggling to get by on income support from the communities that matter to them the most – their local communities.
That’s why, across the country, we’re going to write letters about our hopes for the new Parliament and send them to our MP’s electorate offices.
Can you take five minutes to write a brief letter sharing your story and what you hope to see from the new Parliament?
Can’t deliver or post a letter?

What should I say?
Share your story. Many of you have courageously shared your stories of struggling to survive on JobSeeker, Youth Allowance and other income support payments, or your stories of watching others struggle on those payments. You’ve shared what the 2020 increase to JobSeeker meant, finally being able to access the essentials, like prescription glasses, a fridge and warm jumpers for children to get through the winter. You’ve shared how the continued increase in rent, energy and other living costs have risen to crisis levels and how you are now faced with losing your home. These are the stories that politicians need to hear. It is also good to show how much increasing income support would help you and your family get through difficult times.
